TOWN OF FLORIDA — An Amsterdam man reportedly sustained fatal injuries in a motor vehicle accident, according to authorities.
Around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputy discovered a vehicle off Fort Hunter Road near Route 5S while patrolling the area. Inside the vehicle, the deputy found one occupant who was unresponsive, spurring a request for additional emergency services.
The driver, 61-year-old James A. Wilkinson, of Amsterdam, was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Wilkinson appeared to have been involved in a one-vehicle accident.
Sheriff Jeffery Smith said the cause of the crash remained under investigation as of Tuesday evening.
The county Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Tribes Hill Volunteer Fire Department, the Fort Hunter Volunteer Fire Department, Montgomery County Emergency Management Director Rick Sager, and GAVAC.
A portion of Fort Hunter Road was temporarily closed during the investigation.
